Life Should Be Fun
That is what I always believe in – Life Should Be Fun. I know there will be many who will disagree with me. Let us stop for a moment and think what does life means to you?
- Hard work
- Mundane and boring
- Sadness and sorrow
- Piece of cake
Tell me what life means to you. If you are not having fun in your life, tell me why?
Have you heard this before? “Life is what you make it,” said Marilyn Monroe.
This statement is only half true. It is true for people who lives in the western countries, but untrue in the third world countries. Of course, when Marilyn is saying this, it is meant for people in America.
People in first world countries can choose what they want to do with their life – career, hobby and they can decide their future. What they cannot complain about the world is not fair, for they have access to lots of resources.
Give you an example, if a child wants to study in a third world country, he has no access to books. He might not even have money to buy pencil and paper. Also, he possibly needs to work and make money helping out the family; education is a luxury that he doesn’t have. A child in the first world country can go to the library and pick up any book he wants; even if his family is poor.
Yes, this world is unfair. Some say “everyone is equal” is totally untrue – no one is equal. Everyone has different circumstances, different skills and different challenges.
I feel sorry for people who are in dire straits, who cannot get themselves out of their bad situations. Many people die of starvation every single day. This world seems to be getting worse and more and more people are suffering. We need to help them as much as we can, but we are powerless.
I saw a Youtube video yesterday. It said that if the richest person (just one person) is willing to donate all her money to the world, there would be no poverty and hunger. I don’t know if it is true, but I think it is possible.
For the rest of us who have a roof over our heads and two meals a day, we should be happy. We should not say – life is a struggle or life is unfair. We are living in heaven when compared with the needy and poor.
Yes, I know many people have written books and articles about things like this. There is something which I am going to tell you is different.
Mr. Brian Tracy got it right – when you change your thinking, you can change your life.
It is true if you think you can do it then you have a chance. If you think you can’t, you can’t.
Make life fun
You should make a promise to yourself that you would make your life as fun as you can. You need to know why fun is the second most important thing in this world, the most important thing is love. Without love life has no meaning. You can refer to my other posts which talk about the meaning of life.
Forget about all the other stuff like success, power, wealth and health. Without fun (you can also call it happiness), these things are worthless. Simple enough, if you are not having fun, what is the use of money or success. You can refer to my other post – The Joy of Giving.
You need to focus on how to have fun. Don’t put your focus on money, success or other things. Many people are miserable because all they want is money or all they want is a success. They are unhappy when they came second. They are unhappy when they just have one million dollars.
I remembered one time when my son came home with a maths test result of 95%.
“Why do you missed 5%?” asked my wife with a straight-face.
I still remembered the look on my son’s face; he was frustrated, puzzled and angry. He had the best result in his class, he had a high distinction.
Since then, my son lost interest in his study and his performance in school plummeted. He was constantly fighting with his mum; verbal abuse, shouting and yelling. It was hell. His relationship with mum totally turns sore. He refused to go to school on many occasions just to upset her.
I have heard and seen in newspapers that some kids jumped off from their apartment and suicide. The children felt shame that they could not fulfil their parent’s wish; a perfect student who can consistently score 100% every time. What a tragedy! If these parents knew life is supposed to be fun, such thing would never happen.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we can wake up in the morning with a smile on our face and we ask ourselves, “What kind of fun I am going to have today?”
“I have to go to work every day. What fun is that?” You asked.
“Make all your colleague to be your friends and make work into a game. Then you will have fun no matter what you do.”
“Are you saying that we should not create success and wealth?”
“No, I am not saying that. You can work hard for whatever you desired, but the condition is you should be happy even if you failed. Success and wealth shouldn’t be your ultimate goal. Don’t listen to those who tell you to repeat your money goal ten times every day. Instead, listen to me and repeat your fun goal three times a day.”
When you can do that, you will not be upset with yourself when you failed. You will not push yourself to do things that you don’t want to do. Without stress, you will be healthier, you would enjoy life more.
When you can do that, your life will be totally different. Your friends will be happy to see you because you always bring fun and laughter. Everyone around you will be happier.
Don’t stress, be happy!
