Why exercise is good for you

What is exercise?

Many people thinks that they don’t need exercise.

“I do housework every day. I worked so hard, I don’t need exercise. I already did too much exercise.” said Mary.

“I do a lot of physical work in my job. That’s my exercise. I don’t need more exercise after work.” said Joe.

Most of us don’t understand what is exercise. Work is not exercise. Exercise should be activities which can raise our heart rate for a period of time. When we are doing work, our heart rate might increase for a very short time. Unless we are doing very hard labour otherwise our heart rate more or less stay unchanged. Also, the period should be at least 15 minutes or more.

The most important aspect of exercise is we need to exercise our muscle to build strength. When we have a strong body, we can cope with our daily tasks and not feel tired.

Why do we need to raise our heart rate?

  1. When our heart rate increase during exercise, we can consume the bad cholesterol in our body. It is the only proven method. Diet doesn’t work.
  2. Raising of heart rate can give your blood good circulation. It will also increase the efficiency of your heart. It will lower high blood pressure.

Beside some of the health factors, after you exercise. You will be able to get a better sleep when you feel tired. Next day, you will feel more refresh and you will have a better mental state to face your challenge.

Most of the illness one way of the other caused by not enough exercise. Like most of the common illness – high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high blood sugar and others.

Have you heard of the saying “If you don’t use it, you lose it. ” Our body is exactly like this. If you don’t use your muscle, your brain or your skill. You body will deteriorate gradually, then one day you will find that you lose certain ability.

I will give you a simple example. If you lay in bed for 30 days and not moving your body. Then you will not be able to walk when you get off your bed. You will have to slowly build up your muscle again to be able to walk again. Stress is the number one killer

In modern day, stress is the number one cause of our illnesses. When we are stressful for a prolong period, we will get sick. We might all have a different illness because our body are different, so as our diet, our lifestyle and so on. Exercise is proven to reduce stress.

What kind of exercise?

Any kind of exercise is good. Personally, I like swimming and cycling.

Couple of years ago, I was tested to having high cholesterol. With changing my diet a little bit, eating less meat and carbohydrates; also exercise every day. I was able to lower my cholesterol to normal level within 3 months time.

I don’t have time for exercise

We heard this excuse very often.

I overcome this by waking up 2 hours earlier. Normally, I get up at 8am in the morning and have my breakfast. Then I will get change and go to work. I work 9-5 and I don’t feel like doing any exercise after work for I am tired.

Then one day, I decided to get up 2 hours earlier and go cycling. I have been doing this consistently for 2 months now. I found my body is getting stronger and my belly is smaller. I feel better physically and mentally. I also found that I don’t need the two hours sleep because I slept better.

You don’t have any excuse for not doing exercise because you don’t have time. Spare 15 minutes to half an hour every day to exercise and I am sure you will get the benefit.
