The Benefits of Kindness

The Benefits of Kindness

I was so surprised to find that being kind has health benefits.  Being kind to me is the act of trying to become a better human being.  Being kind is the only way to live our life with purpose.  Kindness and love are the most important human characters.  A person without love and kindness cannot call himself a human being.

I was also surprised to find that there is an Australian Kindness Movement website.  It was created back in 1994 as a service to the Australian communities, the Random Acts of Kindness Project.  Their aim is to help transform individual and community consciousness to practice and promote kindness throughout Australia.  If you are interested in showing your kindness to other, you can join on this website – http://www.kindness.com.au.   You can find out what are the health benefits of kindness on this website.

If you do not find the same kind of website in your country, you might consider building one.

“When you give yourself, you receive more than you give.” – Antonine de Saint-Exupery.

“Love cures people – both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it.” – Karl A. Menninger.

So you see, it is very beneficial for us to be kind and to love one another.  Selfish people are missing a lot and they don’t know what they are missing.

Kindness is very easy and it doesn’t always cost you money.  Here are some examples:-

  • give someone a smile
  • give a helping hand to someone in need
  • listen to others who needs a listener
  • a kind word of encouragement
  • be happy
  • donate blood

When you act kindly, you make our world a better place.  You will have a happier outlook on life and you will be a happier person.

Who should you help

There is something you need to know about helping someone.  There are many people in this world who don’t want to be helped.  So don’t go out and help anyone you see; they will hate you being nosey.  Be sure you ask them first before you put out your helping hands.

What I have learnt in the past is that after helping someone, your best attitude is to pretend nothing has happened.  That will make the people you helped feel easier and not have the guilt that they owed you something.

One time when I helped an old lady carried a heavy luggage up the stairs.   She told me that it is okay at the top of the steps.  I greet her with a smile and told her, “Have a good day!”  I put the luggage down, then I kept walking as if nothing has happened.  Do not offer to give more than they asked for, otherwise you will embarrass them.

On offering advise to someone.  Do not give your advise if the person is not sincerely asking for it.  I have learned this from experience.

When you give advise without being asked, they will not listen to your words. There are some people who ask you but they do not expect any answers.  They just want a conversation.  So what I usually do is ask them, “Do you REALLY want my opinion?”

I don’t do things which produce no result – not unless I am doing it as a hobby or doing it just for fun.  Do you know anyone who keeps doing something exactly the same way and expects a different result?  It makes me laugh.

It is very easy to make friend with someone when you are kind to others.  Everyone loves to have a kind friend – especially those greedy people and those who are controlling.  The reason is they want something from you.

There is a different in being kind from being used or being manipulated.   You will know when someone is asking for too much.  Also you will know those who only come to you when they need your help; who do not show up at your place for a cup of tea or a chat after you helped them.  You need to stay away from these people.  (As my friend Jerry called these smart people – they are so smart as we will not help them any more in the future.)

You have to learn to say NO.  I know that saying NO is very difficult sometimes.  It is not the nature of kind people to say NO to someone.  You need to learn how to do it without feeling guilty.  Just remember, greedy people do not deserve your help.  Save it for someone who deserve it.

 Life changing kindness

There is one form of kindness which is life changing.  It is organ donation.  The receivers will get a new life because of your kindness.  They say you can save or improves as many as 50 lives.  I will discuss this with my family and register my name in the organ donation register.

We should donate our body to others who need it.  The reason is very simple, we have no use with our body after our death.  Exactly like donating your old toys to charity and it make make other people happy.  Saving a life is a noble deed.

Imagine your body parts still live on within other human being – part of you still alive.  It is an amazing thought, isn’t it?

Do you want to live in heaven?

Only kind people can live in heaven, there is no room for selfish people.  It wouldn’t be called heaven if there are selfish and greedy people.  So be wise and learn to be kind.
