Longevity

Most of us want to live longer.  Scientists have been doing research to find out what contributes to longevity.  They are trying to identify the DNA which relays to how long each person lives.  Maybe we would be able to live longer when we can crack the code of our DNA.ss

There was a study headed by Prof. Nir Barzilai, an Israeli physician at Yeshiva University in 2011.  They studied 477 Ashkenazi Jews aged 95 to 109 who were compared with a control group of white American.  The conclusion was – People with exceptional longevity do not have a different lifestyle as most people think.

Healty fruits

So it is your genes which determine how long you are going to live.  This was written in the Bible and the longest you will live is 120 years.

Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” – Genesis 6:3

Nevertheless, if you don’t want to get sick, you need to have a healthy lifestyle.  Because illness will shorten your lifespan prematurely.  For example, if you accidentally infected with viruses like HIV, SARS, Ebola or AIDS.  Which might kill you at a young age, if not immediately?

What is in our genes which we cannot change.  But the other factors which we can work on if we want to live longer.

Surroundings

If you live in the city, the air will be more polluted.  There will be fewer trees and plants which get rids of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.  Also other toxic gases generate by cars and factories.

It is best to live in the countryside which gives us plenty of fresh air and space to exercise.

Health

Health is about exercising and living healthy.  It is no secret that exercise is good for our health.  You don’t have to exercise every day, 3 times a week and a half and hour each time is good enough.

So it is advisable to participate in sports.  Besides, the social interaction with other people, while you are exercising, is good for your mind as well.  Keeping yourself healthy is the key to longevity.

Attitude

Having a good attitude in life is the most important of all.  Stress is the most common cause of illnesses.  We need to maintain a healthy attitude towards life.

Many people have a very stressful life.  They want to be the best in everything they do and very competitive.  This will put a lot of strain and stress on our body and our mind.  I find most people have some kind of unhealthy habits.

Some people don’t take breaks when they are tired and will finish their work before they rest. When you are tired, your body is telling you that it needs rest.  When you keep going, you are damaging your body.  In a short-term you might be okay, but in the long run, you will get sick because your body will breakdown due to stress.

Parents

We cannot choose our parents, so there is nothing much we can do.  If our parents are the one who are giving us stress, then we should stay away from them as much as we can.

Most parents love their children, but some don’t.

Here are some of the bad things that bad parents do to their kids.

  • child abuse
  • in some third world countries, they married off their young children.
  • they sell their children to someone
  • pushes their children to success
  • child exploitation

Eating

They said, “We are what we eat.”

You might not know that food can change the DNA in your body.

If you want to be healthy, eat good food.  Plenty of vegetables and little meat.  Also, only eat up to 80% full because your stomach will expand if you keep eating till you are up to 100% or 110% full.  From then on, you will be overeating every meal and you would not notice.

I had done an experiment myself.  In a month time, I ate only a bowl of rice two times a day, plus a bottle of coke in the morning.  I was doing my normal exercise including jogging and swimming once a week.  I found that I did not lose or gain weight, even though I had eaten so little.  The conclusion – we need very little food to survive.

Eating more will not make our body healthier.  It will make us sick if we eat too much.

Chinese people have a very wise word – moderation.  It is one of the three jewels of Taoist thought.  If you follow this moderation principle, you will live a long and healthy life.

I think it is very wise to have moderation in everything.  Here are some examples.

  • Eating too little, your body don’t have enough nutrition.  Eating too much will put strains on your body.
  • Working too little, you body don’t have enough exercise and your body function will decline.  Working too much will damage your body and your muscles.
  • Thinking too little will make you dumb.  Thinking too much will make you crazy.
  • Earning too little money will not give you enough to live on.  Earning too much money will corrupt your soul.

So here is it, my friends, eat a little, work a little, cry a little and laugh a little.
